I’ am often asked how I have managed to raise such well-behaved, thoughtful, easygoing children. My answer is not always, what one expects to hear...I say, "It’s in the food!"

I start our school mornings off with yummy Pancakes, French Toast, and Eggs in a Hole or whatever will fill the belly and get my boy off to a good start, 45 min drive and AP Classes... As I was cooking for him this morning, I was so aware, that I have just one 1/2 more months as a mother of a High School Teenager! After May, my son will be spending his summer in California and then heading towards college for his new adventure. I have peace knowing this, yet it is bittersweet. I will miss him, "so very much." I will also miss getting up early just to make him his Breakfast and pack his lunch, “really!” I will miss fixing a snack for him when he comes in from school and then having dinner as a family. I know alot of parents do not make breakfast or lunch for their High School children. They feel they are at the age to take care of getting their own food. Yet, I still do this task because I believe that, not only do they need you when they are little, but also that they need you just as much, when they are older. Life is not easy for teenagers! They need to know you are still focusing on them. I feel blessed for my Children have never given me a hard time. When I admit that I m then told, it is because of how you have raised them. I answer; I have only asked that they both do their best in school, each in their own ways. I believe that I also have a part in seeing that happen, it is up to me to feed them the right food so they can get through a day of schoolwork, sports, side jobs, homework and still produce good grades. In a way by fixing these meals for them, it also allows us to catch up throughout the day, make sure all is going well, and see if they want to chat about the events of their day. Sometimes we are just quite, but the food sure hits the spot. Other times I'll even hear," Hey Mom, how was your day?"

. My life growing up was very different from the way I have raised my children. My mom did an amazing job raising 3 children by herself, at least till we were close to High School age but, it was not easy at all for her! I also had a very hard time in school because I am dyslexic, and did not know for many years. Therefore, getting through school was not easy for me. As my children became older is was not easy for me to keep up with their homework.

So, when it comes to raising my children. What has been easy for me has been to share with them TIME and LOVE. Love for them and love for others. My daughter is very creative. So sharing with her my love for all things Crafty, Colorful and Handmade, tenderness for animals and being a Smiling People Person has come easy. I have always had a Hugh heart for the homeless and those in need with mental illness so for my son I shared compassion for all things in need. He has a Hugh heart for helping the homeless and those in Third World Countries and he sores in his academics. Therefore, beyond what I could teach Nolan in this area was to put him in a private school that teaches young boys to become "Men for Others." I cannot begin to put into words the blessings this decision has been for all of us. His major in college is Civil Engineering without boarders. Therefore, when I say, “It’s in the food!” What I mean is, it’s the love a child feels when their mother takes the time to give them the fuel they need to accomplish all that is required of them during their day. It is when we sit and feed them we are also waiting for them to share with us their day, who they are or want to be and we can then help build those traits in them. Their days are long and hard and when you do this, you are saying to them I am your biggest cheerleader! I am here to help you grow into the person you want to become. I will share with you your dreams as they come true and when you fall, I will still be close by, that you will not feel alone, and we will move on together....With our next meal.

Hi to all!!!! I miss you all! Hope you will hop over to my new Nest and follow me, then you can receive my new postings. I have a new crochet project I'm working on.....as I get further along, I can share alittle more about it....as for now, I can say it's not going to be a blanket.

I have also been trying to finish my last years Spring Embroidered Project. I hope to post an update photo of that real soon!

Wow....its been so long.....I have missed my blog! We have been having computer problems: my personal computer and my husband's computer will not let me interact with my blog and a few other sites. Well, my computer will not even turn on....so, as you can see we have some things to work out!

I was thinking the other day that my computer might have known I was on the verge of changing some things and this is its way of protesting. Since our son Nolan will be graduating in June and we will be having an empty nest, my husband and I have chosen to move into a smaller home in hopes of having more time to play and less time to maintain. We have chosen a two story, yet "little" home, that overlooks a golf course, bike paths and lakes thru out.

So, I hope to be back in a couple of weeks and have all things worked out...I miss everyone and hope your all having a wonderful holiday!

Before I take off for our family Thanksgiving in the mountains....I wanted to stop in to say " Thank You!!!" to ALL of you that drop in weekly to pay me a visit. I hope you have enjoyed each and every visit as much as I've enjoyed visiting all of you this last year. Wow, For the last 3 years I pretty much have followed the same routine each morning; grabbed my cup of coffee, taken a sip or two, then onto my blog I go, destined to see what all you ladies have posted!!! Most of you are amazing creative ladies, yet it is not always our latest crafts that we post about....sometimes we slip beyond our craft rooms into the everyday stuff we are faced with. Most the time it involves our loved ones " Our Family!

These adorable little crochet Bridie's are being shared by non other then Lucy over at the very cheerful and colorful blog, Attic 24. Lucy lives in England and if she's not sharing pics from her walks around the country side or her Attic window "which she frequents often for quite moments of crochet bliss" you will find her sharing not only what she crochets but Tutorials on how two's and her amazing choice of yarn in the most amazing colors.....

Lucy's just sweet that way. Whats hers is yours! When she found these sweet little birdies eating out of her hand she wanted to make sure they would eat out of ours also!

Wouldn't this one look precious on a Christmas tree or on top of a wrapped present?

A little note from Lucy's blog that I thought would be helpful:

I felt that the Flat Circle pattern needed to be listed as a page on it's own as it's a very useful pattern to know (can also be used to make a round cushion, or the bottom of a bag). I've had lots of emails lately asking for help in trouble shooting the bottoms-of-bags which are not working out as they should, and I'm hoping that these detailed instructions and many, many pictures should help you to make a flat circle easily, or trouble shoot bag bottoms that have gone baggy or curly!!

Help Heal Hunter

A little friend of mine who is just 3 months old and named Hunter is in the hospital and he is not doing well! His doctors are still trying to find out exactly what is wrong, yet have discerned Hunter is going to need a bone marrow transplant.

Here Hunter is still smiling even though he is having trouble breathing...

He had new issues arise today and needed a CT Scan and a spinal tap. Hunter's mom has started a blog if anyone would like to follow along on how he is doing. His daddy Jason served a year in Iraq and was happy to start a family upon arriving home; Jason and Deanna are a young married couple and Hunter's medical bills have already hit one million dollars. And to think that he still is going to need a bone marrow transplant.

For Nolan's 18 birthday, we took a weekend trip back home to California. Nolan wanted to visit the beach and family with an Arizona friend. While on our trip the boys had high hopes of meeting some pretty beach girls.....So, while they were on a mission of finding girls....I found Rogers Gardens......:) I simply can not visit CA without a visit to the gardens so, here is Rogers Gardens in the fall......

LINEN FRENZY

Nothing New...Simply Old....Mostly a long time love of mine! That would be linens. Not just any linen....But, Vintage Linens!!!! I have searched high and low, far and yes wide. Through swap meets, yard sales, estate sales, antique shops! And through it all, I find myself still dreaming of my long time desire to travel to Paris and visit a Paris flea market, all in hopes of finding linens galore!!!.....O, can't you picture it? Piles upon piles of linens! It would not mattered what kind....clean, dusty, stained, torn, the worse shape the better. For upon arriving home with my cotton treasures, I would soak them for days on end. Not just in soap and water but my very own homemade special soaking solution. Once the magic of the soak took affect. I would lay then out on the grass, in the morning sunshine. For the sun has a way of magically bleaching all linens a natural white, giving then a state of cleanliness. O, and then there is the lovely fragrance of the fresh air that gives them the final seal of approval.......

And somehow through it all I started a business with those beloved linens........That ended up growing beyond the linens......

and toward working with fabrics, felting, vintage images........

Which found me traveling to Chicago, to meet the ladies of the Country Living Magazine......

Which is also what inspired me to start my blog a few years back.....now that the baby of the family is nearing young adulthood, I found myself pulling away from designing Children' s clothes......and once again seeking out the wonders of found treasures. In the recent weeks I have started selling among other items, my vintage linens on E-Bay! Which I might add is turning out to be a lot fun!!!!! And boy do I have a lot of Linens......

So if you have something in mind......

that you cant seem to find.....

or maybe want to make something like this.....

just ask, I'll probably have it or know how to find it for you!! As for now...me and my helper have a lot of ironing and posting to do.....

Come on in and see whats sparking my interest in fall decorating....

for starters, the front door above! I love its beautiful warm and welcoming teal color. Although, it's not the right color for my front door, I have chosen it for my living room entertainment center. On my upcoming post I will be showing before and after pictures with painting how to's...

As far as fall pumpkins, I'm not sure if I want to use Orange pumpkins or White this year....Above with the fall foliage the orange pumpkins look beautiful! What is your favorite? Or do you use both?

and since were talking about fall warmth....I have to get to work making my bedroom look more like this one! Isn't it beautiful!!! I could curl up with a great book, and want for nothing more!!!!

As I watch from a Far.....Back home in California my family and friends are dealing with this! It has been a week long battle of flames and dark sky's. Yet we are blessed and amazed that so few homes have burned. Thank you Lord for watching out for us!!!!!

Hello to all.....I thought I would post some pics of the new crochet book I picked up at the Barnes and Nobel, bookstore the other day! One of my favorite past times is to go to Barnes and nobel, get coffee, pull books and magazine that I just have to have, then sit down and read them. When I lived in California and my daughter was growing up, this was our favorite Friday night outing together. I have always been so blessed that she enjoys spending time with me and hopefully in the near future, we will once again be spending our Friday nights this way!!!!!

Well, about the Book!!! Its all about how one can crochet with soft , luxurious natural yarn such as alpaca, soya, corn fibre, cotton, and wool......

it is full of beautiful pictures....

Precious ideas.....

cute modern looks for toddlers....

and crawlers.....

easy to read patterns.....

and very easy to follow stitch directions.....

Tina Barrett is the author and her goal is to show us that "natural" need not be bland with her funky and colourful crochet projects for babies and toddlers.....and I think she has done a great job....for I just love this book and can't wait to get started on some of the projects.

Crochet Baby Cot Blanket Pattern

Hello to all....I have just finished crocheting a Baby Blanket for the Knit-a-Square Foundation. I remembered to take a picture of the blanket before I sent if off, so I would be able to post my how to pattern along with it. Well, here it is......

I used Lion brand Yarn. Vanna's Choice Baby. 100% Acrylic. Medium (4)

- 2 rolls of Lamb
- 1 roll of Aqua
- 1 roll of Mint

Makes

-16-6"x 6" squares, 4 rows of 4 squares

Pattern:

Chain 16, turn, *single crochet across * 18 rows = 1-6"x 6" square.

When you have finished all 16 squares then you slip stitch them together.

Edge:

Slip Stitch all around edge of blanket.

In next row (*3 single crochet, Chain 3, 1 single crochet into last single crochet made.) * cont. till last stitch. Finish off.

Finish Size is 23" x 23".

Easy Peasy Summer Fruit Salad.....

One of my son's favorite foods to eat is this very simple "Summer Fruit Salad!" I made it for a Sunday Brunch this last weekend and remembered to take a photo.

To start, you just pick any fresh fruit in season that you enjoy. I always use the same fruit:

10 -Sliced Strawberry's
2 -Sliced Banana's
2 -Chopped Red Apple's
2 -handfuls of Blueberry's

Then I use 1- 6oz container of Yoplail Yogurt. Mixed Berries or Strawberry/Banana or if you have a favorite yogurt you can use that.

I put the strawberry's and blueberry's in the mixing bowl first. Then I slice the bananas and chop the apples last, so they do not turn brown. Once all the fruit is in the bowl, I add the yogurt. Gentle mix all together. Then spoon all together into a nice serving bowl and there you have it!! If you want to feed a larger crowd, you just add extra fruit and yogurt.

I have had a few request asking if I could post the crochet pattern for the Cute little Cloche Hat I use to sell in my Vintage Sweet Peas store......so here it is....I have always used a cotton yarn, but for those wanting to crochet this hat for the Square-knit-along, I'm sure a warm wool yarn would work just as well....

Materials
2 x 1.25 oz (50g) ball of all Seasons Cotton from Rowan in Soul works well
1 x 1.75 oz (50g) ball of All seasons Cotton from Rowan in Jaunty
7 (4.5mm) crochet hook

Size - Small, medium, large
Skill - Easy
Gauge - 14 sts and 17 rows to 4 in (10) measured over rows of sc using 7 (4.5mm) hook

Pattern
Ch 4, join into a ring with a sl st.

Round 1: 8 sc into ring.
Round 2: 2 sc into each sc - 16 sts.
Round 3: *1 sc into next sc, 2 sc into next sc; rep from * to end - 24 sts.
Round 4: *1 sc into each of next 2 sc, 2 sc into next sc; rep from * to end - 32 sts.
Round 5: *1 sc into each of next 3 sc, 2 sc into next sc; rep from * to end - 40 sts.
Round 6: *1 sc into each of next 4 sc, 2 sc into next sc; rep from * to end - 48 sts.
Round 7: *1 sc into each of next 5 sc, 2 sc into next sc; rep from * to end - 56 sts.

Squares for Africa....

Well, I have finished my first set of Squares for Africa and I'm almost finished with my first baby blanket! It will be exciting when I can send these off in the mail...hopefully by this weekend!! I'm happy to say I have two other helpers who have joined me in knitting/crochet to help keep little ones warm in Africa. For those that are joining me for the first time...the squares are made and then sent to Africa where they are joined together by a wonderful group of ladies who then hand them out to those in need...if you would like to make a square or more please feel free to join us!!! Here are a couple of picture's showing some of the Summer Fun that we are having here in Arizona!! It was 114 today...so we are loving the swimming pool....

Christie and I always make time for our laptops....If you look to the right corner of this picture, you will see some different paint colors...I have been trying to choose a color for this room. We had a party the other night and I asked everyone to give a vote on there choice of color...It was a great help and now I have chosen the color for my family room....thanks again to everyone who voted.....

Here are the boys playing band...I think its called Guitar Hero???? Not sure, but they sure have a great time with it...

And of course shooting hoops....did I say it was 114 out?...Uwakim, an exchange student from Norway is playing basketball barefoot.......

I was able to buy my copy yesterday at the local book store. Of course I stayed up way to late having a lovely quite time reading this little book of Bliss. To my husband who has given me many wonderful ranch adventures......and to my dad who passed away a week before our wedding! I miss you so very much, and I love you both......

Well, I have not been posting on a regular basic and I thought I would share some images from my craft/ storage room and also a new interest of mine....but its not the little bear below. She just sits in my craft room.....cuz, she's cute.....

I have jars of buttons, ribbons and squares of wool felt.....

Here is something I have been stitching on for a while, in between other projects.....

I also love all things that relate to the month of July, they can be found threw out my craft room and house.....

Of course you will find, lots and lots of yarn in all different colors......which leads me to my new interest.....

I have been crocheting squares for the Knit-a-square charity. Knit- a- square is a charity that knits or crochets square's and then sends them to Africa. Once the squares arrive a group of ladies from the local church's join the squares together and make blankets for the orphans and/or sick children. If you would like to join along, let me know or check out their site. It would be wonderful to have you join and help bring some warmth and sunshine into a little ones life......

Hair for Charity!!!

Hello to all of you!!! I hope everyone is looking forward to summer. I am!!! My husband and I will be heading out to our ranch this weekend. But, before we leave, I will be cutting my hair for charity......

Yes...most of that hair above will be gone tomorrow...short? yes!! But, I'm excited !!!! I think it will be cute...cross your fingers and toes.....:)

While at the ranch this weekend, I hope to finish stitching this little wedding sampler for Christie's 1 year anniversary...I will be sure to post a pic of it when I have it in it's frame....If I'm brave I'll also post a pic of my haircut.....

Next is a pillow I decorated with different colored needlepoint thread. It started as a plain wool pillow that I wanted to make come alive and fit in with my living room. I added 5 different colors of thread, 2 inches apart by 9 rows and 18" by 18". If you want to make one and have questions, please feel free to ask....:)

Lake Mary, AZ

My husband and I took a little trip to Lake Mary, here in Flagstaff, AZ. My Mom and Grandmother joined us on our little fishing adventure.....

When you arrive at Lake Mary you usually stop in at the General Store and stock up on all your fishing needs.....Out front of the store is a cute little garden, tended too by the owners wife.....

The weather at Lake Mary was beautiful....

We saw a mom and baby Eagle....They were amazing to watch....

Below are the Gr-mas sitting on a bench, weaving....It was a treat having them join us....

As my husband was fishing , I sat next to him working on one of my projects.....

You can see the Lucy purse that I crochet ....I just love carrying my yarn stash around in it and I have already had two request for one, so it appears that I will be making a couple for Christmas gifts...

Well, upon our second day of camping....

things took a change of pace...and started getting dark....I got the look from my husband....

and it was the "get off the lake look".....and WOW....the lighting started big time.....

And then the hail started....there was tons.....the size of marbles.....lol...then heavy rain....

then more hail.....O, dang....a big puddle started under his tent...

Well, since we were not far from home and the lighting was really bad...we decided to pack up and head for home...

By the time we were back on the road, it looked like it had snowed..:)

Laguna Beach, Ca.

Christie was able to come out to Arizona and visit before her summer classes start at Cal State Long Beach. As she headed back to CA. we drove out with Nolan, his car and bike. He is spending his summer in CA, and looking forward too lots of fun with childhood friends before he starts his senior year at Brophy.

We spent a day in Laguna Beach and went to the state park for a hike. Above pic was taken, before going down the hill to the shore....and of course a pic of the kids!!!

It was a beautiful day! My Mom used to work for the Pentagon/Washington D.C. When she transfered to EL Segundo, CA. to continue her work, she would head up the conventions and we would go hang out at the beautiful Newport Inn. We had lots of family fun and wonderful memories of time spent in Laguna/Newport Beach......

Mothers Day Happiness

I had a wonderful Mothers Day! In fact it lasted all weekend long....Here is a picture with my son Nolan, Christie, my daughter was not able to be with us. She has two more weeks of college and then she will come home too visit. "We miss you!!!"

My brother came out with his wife Mary. He always takes a plane and rents a corvette upon arrival. So, Nolan was very excited when he got to take it for a spin....

"Into the West" The Norco Mounted Posse, Trail Riders

"Into the West" the Norco Mounted Posse Trail Ride is my first post, in a series of post, relating to the history behind the East Mojave Desert. For the last Twenty-one years, the Norco Mounted Posse has sponsored a, twice a year horse back ride, where riders cross the Mojave Desert by horse back upon the Old Mojave trail.

They spend a couple of nights at our friends Bud Smiths ranch. His ranch is down around the mountain from ours. While at Buds ranch, they spend a day riding trails in the East Mojave Desert. Camp out around the Bonfire, eat some great outdoor cooking while enjoying some skits and good company.....

Here is a group of the riders as they rode into Buds Ranch.....

After 27 miles they are still having a great time......

Kimmie works with horses for a living.....she also trains Clydesdale's! Below I rode Washney

Our dear beloved Bud passed away this last year. "Everyone misses you, Bud!!!!!" Bud is like a second father to my husband, so we will gladly have the horse back riders camp at our place next year, if need be....

OK, I found this to be so funny, yet cute....as in who knew!!!...These horses get upset, if you do not park them next to their buddies....they let you know that they are upset. No worries tho, I found a carrot or apple made things all better....in fact you can make a life long friend with a horse that way......

Below is Jason's horse, he works for the Bureau of Land and Management...It was very nice to meet him.....the BLM is the Wild Horse and Burro Compliance Specialist. It is very big on my heart, so Jason and I will be talking in the future.

Totally Useless Sal....

My first Sal post......I chose a large jar because I do alot of crochet. Here is what I have so far!!!!

Totally useless sal is an artful yet totally useless endeavor! It is a stitch along with a Jar of your choice, that you agree to put all of your "stitching throw aways" in. Each month, on the New Moon, you post your progess. On December 16, Sal will end with the beautiful projects we have created. Maybe even a Trade and one or more totally useless Prize's!!!

Wow, I was gone a little longer from my blog then planned ! We had a wonderful time at the ranch. I was able to take lots of photos and will post them in two different post this upcoming week. One post will be about the history of my Husbands family's homestead that had burned down in the days of the wild wild west! I went to the original location of the homestead and old school house and took lots of photos....I also took photos of the horse back riders that ride the old Mojave trail twice a year. They have always stop and stay two or three days at a friends ranch. He sadly passed away this Winter so we will now gladly provide a camping site for the riders.

Well, remember the crochet project I took with me on our vacation?.... I finished it! Yes and I love it!!! But, I must say it took me longer then I thought it should have, and somehow I added more stitches to the bottom then Lucy had, "not sure how I did this!" So my bag looks a little fuller. But, I still like it!! What do you all think?? Here's a picture. I think it will make a great run around summer bag.....Thank you Lucy for taking the time to create and post your Pattern!!!!

Also, when we arrived home we found that we had some very happy little tomatoes growing in our garden!!! Happy signs of spring!!!!

Of course there was also these two! The inseparable dog and chicken! They were very happy to see us....These two really didn't care! They are always on vacation!!!

After church this morning I spent some time in the kitchen making these homemade Blackberry Tarts. We spent the evening having them with some coffee and a good movie....so yummy!!!!

Taking a Vacation....

My husband and I are ready for an Easter getaway! So we are going to take a week long trip up to our ranch with some friends. I have a wonderful book and a new Crochet project that I will be taking along. It is this very colorful cute as can be purse in the picture below......I think it will be adorable with shorts, and colorful summer tees....

O, I can't wait to just sit out there in the beauty of it all and stitch away. Enjoy some bonfires at night, hot coco, and boardgames, then end the day with a good book and a fire in the fireplace....:)

Our ranch is located in the "Mojave National Preserves." The area makes for a nice family getaway. There is a lot to see if you have never been and the park service can fill you in on some of the real life western stories that took place out on the Preserves or you can see pictures and artifacts in the museum.

My Husbands Grate Grandfather use to time the trains coming in at Kelso depot. We have his original gold stop watch with chain. They have now turned the depot into a museum and a coffee/lunch counter. His Grandfather use to attend school when it only had a handful of students. The first homestead that his Grate Grandfather grew up in was burned down by some very bad cowboys that also took a whip to his Grate Grandmother, short of killing her. The old bed frame still sticks up out of the ground amongst pretty color broken bottles, bits and pieces of their house, china, stove, etc. Indian artifacts can still be found while taking walks and lots and lots of beautiful land, any which way you turn! You can check out the link up above to get an idea of what there is to do if you would like to plan a trip.

As I promised in my last post....I finally finished my sweet little Beary Goodness!!! This is little Lulu, she loves all things yummy! She comes with her very own red crochet sweater, a very cute striped skirt in pinks and browns and has been hand embroidered with a cupcake, hot coco, and strawberry's!!!

Around her neck is a vintage blue button, "a charm that says to love and to cherish" and a red plaid ribbon.Of course she sports a cute little tail and is just waiting to be adopted by a home full of sweetness and cupcakes!!!!

Below is Mattie! She is in full bloom and is sooooo excited that spring has arrived! She likes nothing about winter and hopes to fill a home with her embroidered flower blossoms!

Mattie is wearing a hand crochet purple sweater with pink trim and a crochet flower with vintage buttons.....all of her spring flowers are from vintage linens. Around her neck is a charm that promises that she will love and cherish you always....

Mattie comes with a cute little tail and wants to be adopted soon in hopes she will not miss the Easter Bunny!!!! Next,I'm going to post the little necklace scarfs. They are just perfect for spring and look so cute with a simple T-shirt, denims, shorts or cargo pants!! They are all light weight and soft.....

French Knots......

Wow, it has been a week since I posted! I have been busy working on some new items......This project is going to be a linen pillow for my bedroom. I'v used one of my vintage linen's and some ABC stencils. I traced the letters onto the linen very lightly and have started to fill the letters in with French Knots.....it will read SPRING. Here is a very helpful tutorial on how to make French Knots......Primrose designs.blogspot.com You will locate it on the right hand side of her blog under Stitch School.

Later this week I will be posting these fun Spring necklace scarfs in my Etsy shop and some Beary Goodness!

Happiness Banner

O what a wonderful weekend...Always is when the kids are under one roof, at home!!!!

We celebrated with a Happiness Banner.....and some yummy happiness cupcakes, which where beyond amazingly good......

Then spent Saturday at the Dodgers Spring Training Camp. Lovely place!!!! Beautiful weather which is the norm here in Arizona...except for those 3 months out of the year...you know what months I'm talking about....lol

O Sweet Valentine!!!!

Yeah, I finished making all my Valentine Items for my Esty Shop.....

First up is Sophie. She is all excited because she just completed her first Valentine recital!

Sophie is one of a kind. I hand crochet her using ecru cotton yarn then hand embroidered her features and added a cute little note that promises she will be truly yours. She is carrying a red felt heart with an embroidered cupcake. Did I tell you she likes Cupcakes....she does....

next I made Valentine Pomanders. They are hung with care by a vintage velvet ribbon and outfitted with red velvet flower petals that I topped with a glitter dove and matching glittered sprinkles on the petals........

and here's my "BE MINE" Valentine Banner.........

I used wood flags, covered them with soft colored scrap booking paper, primarily in pinks, cherry red and lime green. I made the letters using glitter and trimmed them with matching pink paint that also outlines each flag.....

Banner is hung using a satin rose colored ribbon.......

then I made these very sweet valentines to help decorate a home or to be given to a very special someone........

each Dove is carrying a little banner that says....Kiss ME......

Sophie is so excited....she can't wait to see who will take her home for Valentine's Day!

Yeppee!!!!!!!!!

Valentine Posy's, Banners and Ballerinas

O MY, I have been so busy in my little work room!!! As I mentioned in my last post, "while we were visiting Rogers Gardens", I was going to be adding a lot of new items to my Etsy Shop! While they are not completely finished yet I do have some bits and pieces that I.m so excited too share with you all.....

First up, A Valentine Pomander....I made these for my daughter's wedding and soooo many of you just loved them, that I decided to make them for Valentine's decorations/gifts......

Here is one of my cute little cat ballerina's. I'm so happy with how they are turning out. Although making them is taken a little longer then I had hoped. This one likes cupcakes.......

Hello January 2009

Well, hello to everyone and welcome January 2009! Wow, the holidays went by way too fast. We had such a wonderful time with all of our loved ones under one roof. I could not have asked for anything more. I hope you all had an equally wonderful Christmas!!! That having been said, my first weekend of January got off to a busy start. I went out to California to visit Christie and Kevin and their new Kitten,Sid that was a Christmas present to her from us......

He is such a sweet little cat and Christie is having such a great time making him feel at home. While in California we made sure we hit up all of our favorite shopping site's. One of my very favorite places to visit, is Rogers Gardens. It is located in Newport Beach and I made sure I had my camera so I could share my visit with you....

So lets go on in.......

When you first enter Rogers Gardens, they have a cute cottage house that is decorated with wonderful gifts you can buy pertaining to the season or Holiday at that given time.....

While I was decorating the inside of our house for Christmas, my husband was decorating the outside of our house......He was not alone for he had his trusted sidekick Dinky with him...also know as the Ranch Hand, Cowboy Dinky or our Little Piglet...Mufasa our cat was also helping......
Then there was helper Popeye, the Supervisor. He is as old as the hills, but what a ranch dog....

Here is Popeye with his best friend Henny Penny. They go everywhere together, even sleep next to each other. Aren't they cute? We don't know what we will do when Pop is gone, that little Hen is going to miss him so much!!! But for now they are just having a good time...... O, the lights are on! Good thing, looks like rain......

Holiday Spice Pomander Tutorial

This is my first Tutorial, so here we go.....if you look closely at the picture below, you will see a glass tier decoration of orange pomanders. We are going to be making orange spice Pomanders. I so enjoy these because they last such a long time and fill the air with a lovely fragrance.To start with you will need one perfect orange, one ounce whole cloves, one tablespoon cinnamon, one teaspoon nutmeg, one teaspoon allspice, one star of anise, a skewer and an 18 inch length of ribbon.

Push the stem ends of the cloves into the orange-just close enough to touch.You can make a decoration with the cloves or cover the orange completely with the cloves which is what I like to do.....
When you are done decorating your orange with the cloves you will put the orange in a bowl with the mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Roll the orange pomander in the spice mixture. Leave the pomander in the bowl in a warm spot for two weeks are longer if you prefer. Roll it in the spices occasionally to help the orange dry, harden, and shrink. " If you do not have a warm sunny window" you can use a heat lamp making sure that you do not leave the heat lamp on, unless you are home and can watch over it.
When this has been done, you then take the ribbon and with a skewer pierce the pomander orange lengthwise threw the middle and thread a double length of ribbon through the top of the pomander. Tie a knot and a bow at the bottom and leave a loop for hanging at the top. I then glue the star of anise on top of the bow. If you do not want to hang it you can just let it sit in a pretty dish.
I like to give these as a Holiday Hostess gift. I put them in a pretty clear bag, then add some of the extra star of anise then the orange pomander, wrap it up with a cute tag and bow.

I also like to take the Hostess our favorite cider and spice drink from R.W. Knudsen. It is simply the best.....

Once a year my dear husband ask me to do a favor for one of his business clients. They have a BBQ for their clients and family members and they ask if I would make baskets that they can raffle off.So I go to a Store called Tuesday Mornings and I buy Baskets and all kinds of items to pamper the lady's with.
Then I make baskets for the whole family to enjoy together. Tuesday Mornings always has these old vintage toys, which I think are the best! I add some candy and popcorn then wrap it up pretty........

and this is what they look like......... Then off they go........My husband is happy and I get such a big Thank you from his client! I love the idea of these baskets because some cater to the women and the others are filled with fun for the whole family, so the kids leave the BBQ excited about the raffle also......:)

O, you girls give me to much credit...lol....I really DID NOT Knit those sweet cupcakes!!! The lovely Julie, of Little Cotton Rabbits.....Knitted them! I have been wanting to Knit these cupcakes for such a long time, mind you, I don't know how to Knit. But I find them to be Soooooo Pretty and Cute!!!!!!! And, I think it would be so much fun to make these for gifts. Which of course I did, mind you, I don't know how to knit, lol.

To throw or not to throw ....

Its a cake. But, not just any cake. It's his 17th Birthday Cake. Baked especially for him by no, not me his Mother but, his girlfriend who I do adore. She is his first Love, his true Love, his one and only Love! And who am I to say that this is not true.. mind you his Sister,just married her High School Sweetheart! So, his girlfriend baked this Double Decker Chocolate Cake for him a WEEK ago. The sweet thing carried it around school, wrapped in foil all day. "Here in Arizona it is too hot to stick in a locker" Well, after school they meet up as always "they go to separate schools, one is all boys the other all girls." So, as cute as they are, they meet up , sit in the air conditioned hallway, on the floor cuz, thats what kids do and piece by piece with one fork they ate cake and Bless their little hearts there was some left over.......would you like some?

So, home it came this time being carried by my son, the Birthday boy. Once home he ask if we had a cake holder? Why, of course we do I said, very happy that I could be of help with the cake, the one and only, the trophy cake on display now in our kitchen.

So, when does cake start growing mold?

You really don't know what you are going to receive inside your Swap box, except that it will be related to the Swap theme and I'm sure your Swap Partner will have worked long into the night or early morning to complete this special package just for you....

So, here is what I sent out to my Swap Partner.......I hope she likes it!!!!!! :)

And today is the day that my Swap Box will arrive. Of course I'm waiting patently for the mail to come!!!!!! I think I'll go sit outside near the mailbox, a cup of coffee in hand and twiddle my thumbs.......

He Sleeps

Last time Christie was out for her visit, she told Mufasa, our cat, that he could sleep in her room. So now, each day from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon he has his cat nap in her room.

Well, he is SOooooo happy with this new arrangement, that the other day he slept through this......
A hail storm, in Arizona, in the summer.....
the hail was the size of a large marble and very loud....
and yes it is still 100 degrees or more on any given summer day. But, it is our Monsoon season. That means we get thunder storms at least once or twice a week that last anywhere from 15 min to 1 hour, with lots of wind, thunder and lighting shows. Sometimes LOTS of lighting with no rain. Which makes it fun to just sit outside and watch the show.

But, this hail storm was not the norm and with the size of these ice cubes, I'm thinking it was a good thing he was asleep and not outside running around...:)

MY SWEET PEA...TEE

Yap, that's her. My little Sweet Pea - Tee!
I know , not so little any more but still mine. Or is she? Hmmmm.... That is the question I have been asking myself lately. As many of you know , she is now married to her high school sweetheart. Yes, It is a good thing. Yet , I can't help feeling a little sad lately as I realize that although she has been living on her own for the last three years, that now she truly has a home of her own, a husband who she takes her worries too first and share's all of her hurts with first, and this is a good thing, right ? "Yes I agree!" We raised her to be independent, safe and happy while away from us. Living on her own. And she is ! But, I miss - TEE........

I miss the little hand that use to hold onto my pinky as we did all things together. I miss laying next to her in her little bed singing " Your are so Beautiful to Me" each night as she would fall asleep, then I would put the little tape into the back of her Teddy Ruxben bear, so that he would keep her company with a story as I tucked her in, kissed her goodnight, turned off her lights. I miss driving all the girls home from school and watching them play softball, wearing pony tails with big ribbons tied into bows yet sacrificing their bodies for the love of the game. I miss the sleepovers and the Friday night sceary movie get togethers.

And then TEE reminds me how much she loves me. Yes, me... her mom, and that she can't wait to come back home for a visit. She wants to see her brother. She wants to see the dogs, our Chicken and Cat. She can't wait to go shopping, something we love to do and after we are done shopping we will go to one of our favorite places to eat, and we have this thing where we order our food and dessert and while we are waiting for our food to come, we eat dessert first....I know, but this is what we do....and it is fun and it is us....then we come back home, sit on the couch, watch movies with our lap tops in our laps. We talk about our favorite blogs, new photos, favorite site's and of course her childhood dog, Dinky sits right at her side. Then I remember that Yes, I miss TEE, but this is Tee's home and there's no place like home......:)

For those of you who have not heard, Sweet Nie from NieNieDialogues and her Husband were in a plane crash. They are both now recovering in the hospital. Nie was burned over 80% of her body and her husband over 30% of his body.

Nie has been a blessing to many blog readers by sharing her beautiful spirit, smile and by taking us into her very loving home.

A LITTLE ADVENTURE IN ARIZONA

My husband and I took a drive up North of Glendale, AZ. to a little town called Prescott.
On our way we saw this beautiful valley of Pine trees. A lot of visitors are always surprised to see that Arizona has so many Oak and Pine trees. I was one of them, being that I'm from California.

This is a picture, over looking Prescott. Prescott is a very sweet little town. I believe it was about 1882 that it was a very busy Mining town. It is also know for its famous street called Whiskey Row, a street of made up of Saloons only. The Earp Brothers, Doc Holiday and Big Nose Kate are some of the famous names from the old west days that use to live in Prescott.

Here is a picture of the City Hall. They have a lot of Concerts in the Park, BBQ's and Craft shows on the City Hall lawn. Prescott is very much a family town.

This is the famous "Palace Hotel saloon" I believe it was the first saloon and Hotel in Prescott.
Next up on our outing is the little mining town of Jerome....It is built on the side of a hill.
Again, sometime in the 1800's.

Good old Fudge......YUM, it was wonderful.....

And if you visit you might want to stay at the Ghost City Inn, very sweet, your won't be alone :)

SOMETHING I'M WORKING ON.....

A little girls cape and skirt to go in my Etsy shop for winter. The outfit is made out of a felt/wool blend, the little flowers have been hand felted onto the skirt and cape, then all the edges have been hand stitched in a wool yarn. I have a couple of more designs I'm working on, then in the shop they go.....
And I want to say a very big " THANK YOU" to everyone who left me a comment or e-mail regarding Christie's wedding pictures! It is always so fun to hear from all of you, so many kind and sweet words!!!!!

This happened.......Yes, this would be the culprit.....

I have been so busy since we returned from Christie's wedding I feel I have been neglecting my blog. Let me start by saying, we are still waiting for the wedding pictures to come in. I will be sure to post them as soon as they arrive......

Well, now that the wedding is behind us I have had a lot of catching up to do on my everyday life. Before leaving for California I made a list of things I needed to focus on when I returned and I would like to share it with you.....

# 1. Change the items for sale in my Etsy store. I have decided that I will no longer be selling just vintage children's clothes. I will be selling vintage linens, while also using them to design some of the other items I use to sell. Although I'm not sure when the store will re-open
.
# 2. Cancel my website. I no longer feel the need to have a website.

# 3. Switch my blog over too type pad. So many of the blogs I enjoy are using Type pad, it seems they have more choices to work with. So, I would love to hear feedback on this subject, if any of you use Type pad, blog spot or another site you would like to share with us the pros and cons of we would love to hear from you.

# 4. Start selling on E-bay

# 5. Upload all photos to flickr and link back to my blog.

It is located right next to the Warner Brothers Ranch, NBC Studios/Hollywood, Disney Headquarters, The Kodak and Pantages Theater and of course the LA Equestrian center.....where we are headed for the Wedding...... The bride having her hair and makeup done by our dear Friend Annabelle from Salon Sessions in Pasadena, California! Thank you soooo much Annabelle, you do such beautiful work.....

Yes, it is time....I leave Wednesday Morning for California to start preparing for Christie's Wedding on Sunday! Thursday we will be running around getting last min errands finished, hair appointment and rehearsal dinner that Evening. Friday we will be baking cookies for all of the wedding quest and if the Groom will allow me, I will be posting pictures of our baking day and the recipe when I get back home. (The recipe has been in the grooms family for many years and is quite special!)

Well, that is all for now, I will post wedding photos as soon as I can! Can't wait to share all :)

I found this little sweet dog traveling with another dog about a month ago! Well, I could not leave them on the street! Soooooo, I took them in and while looking for them a new home...... SURPRISE...We now have two Puppies.....
The mommy dog was so skinny from not eating when I found her, that I could not tell she was pregnant. Well, she gave birth to a very healthy white puppy and a little black puppy. The black one is not eating very much, so we are keeping an eye on him.

New Baby Items

Well, many of you asked if I would create some little baby items,

So, I did....... I used some Moda fabric...Classic Vintage Nursery Rhymes

some Mama's Feed sack fabric, cotton Swiss dot quilting fabric and small crochet lace trim.

on some very pretty cotton burp cloths....and onesies

then, I ordered some Beatrix Potter fabric from Quilting Treasures, used some coral colored crochet trim and whipped up these cute items.....

Next I found this Story Book Classic Fabric and had to make some onesies and burp cloths using it.....I couldn't resist

these little rabbits are just too cute!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

O my ....has anyone made the cute little purse from my last post? Because I haven't!!! Have I mentioned how busy I have been? Well, this is a little of what I have been spending day and night on.......Yes, my daughters wedding....aren't these little cosmetic purses so pretty...they are from Sommer designs. They will be filled with lots of nice items for the bridesmaids...and the girls will be wearing these lovely red dresses in the back ground.....
then there are these pretty red flower balls....I'm using red velvet flowers with gold glitter sprinkled on a few of the tips,
one by one I attach them to a green topiary ball using a hot glue gun... they will be hanging from tree branches in vases at the wedding.....
I still have a lot to do.....
But, what mother doesn't put the world on hold when her daughter is getting married :)

Wow, is that not beautiful!!!!!! We went to Chicago and had a wonderful time...... The Country Living Event was amazing!!! Six Hundred women attended this event in the beautiful Renaissance Hotel! I met so many talented women! Heather Bailey from Hellomynameisheather, Anna Griffin and the CEO of Etsy to the creator of Country Living Magazine........

Well, I was also blessed to have had my husband travel along with me. We did a little bit of sight seeing and it was just nice to get away together!

Notice, there is still ice on top of the water!

And of course, did you really think I could go somewhere and not find some type of animal!!! They wanted me to go away....can you tell! They left me all alone for my photo...

I live in Arizona, although I grew up in California. I moved to Arizona 2 years ago, for my husband's work and son's school. I have two children: my daughter is 24 and my son is 16. My daughter attends college in Long Beach, CA and my son attends a beautiful private school here in Phoneix. We are very content here in Arizona, although there are parts of California that are just home to me!

Well, my work started when my children were little. I have always been a stay at home mom and did different side jobs from time to time. But, I love vintage linens, and started sewing interior designs using linens that clients had from loved family members. It all started with one client who's mother had passed away and left her family linens, she wanted to update them and use them in her home....so out of a channel bedspread we made a beautiful shower curtain, turned some tablecloths into euro sized pillows for her guest room and table napkins where made into pillows for her sofa.... we combined all this with new updated fabrics and it all turned out so beautiful! Her words to me were...."now my mom is still with me" ..So, my business began!

Well, when I moved to Arizona I was faced with the fact that I needed to locate new customers. So, I started from my computer..I'm still working on this...but I changed my direction to using vintage linens and new fabric to create little girls clothes.....and this too has been so much fun! I have a website, Vintage Sweet Peas, an Etsy store Vintagesweetpeas.etsy.com , and now a blog...Oh, and I still sew interior designs when asked!

Getting ready for my daughters bridal shower! Of course we are having so much fun!

Pretty colors of red, brown, pink and greens....we collected these coffee cups from Starbucks in 2007/Feburary/Valentines day.... they have little charms hanging by ribbon on the handles and sweet sayings of love..we are filling them with cream candle wax and they are turning out so pretty.

Meet Hatti! We are so excited about Hatti that we have put her in the "Flickr Softie Easter Parade!"

Guatemala City Update

The trip with our Friends of the Orphans to Guatemala City was a huge success! The kids were sooooo happy to have the Brophy boys come visit them! Our boys worked in the kitchen, garden, bakery and on maintenance, and still had lots of time to play and show attention to the children! Our God child, Walter Mauricio Leonardo , he looks happy!

a 6 hour boat ride....... and a beautiful day!
